EMPLOYMENT-BASED

PERMANENT RESIDENCE MAY BE OBTAINED THROUGH A JOB OFFERED, AN INVESTMENT, A SELF-PETITION, OR VARIOUS CATEGORIES OF SPECIALZED JOBS.  

FAMILY-SPONSORED

PERMANENT RESIDENCE MAY BE OBTAINED THROUGH A FAMILY MEMBER.  GENERALLY,  THE PETITIONING FAMILY MEMBER MUST EITHER BE A U.S. CITIZEN OR A LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENT.  

NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS

USED FOR TEMPORARY PERIOD OF STAY IN THE U.S. AND RESTRICTED TO THE ACTIVITIES CONSISTENT WITH THE ISSUANCE OF THE VISA.  THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE TEMPORARY VISITS FOR PLEASURE, FOR TRANSIT, FOR SCHOOL, AND FOR BUSINESS.  

REMOVAL & RELIEF

THERE ARE SEVERAL FORMS OF RELIEF AVAILABLE FOR A PERSON FACING REMOVAL.  THESE INCLUDE ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS, ASYLUM, CANCELLATION OF REMOVAL, DEFERRED ACTION, PROSECUTORIAL DISCRETION, VOLUNTARY DEPARTURE, WITHHOLDING OF REMOVAL, AND WAIVERS.

NATURALIZATION 

A PERSON ACQUIRES U.S. CITIZENSHIP AFTER COMPLYING WITH SPECIFIC SUBSTANTIVE AND PROCEDURAL REQUIREMENTS.  SPECIAL PROCESS IS AVAILABE FOR CERTAIN SPOUSES OF U.S. CITIZENS.   

APPEALS 

THE BOARD OF IMMIGRATION APPEALS REVIEWS DECISIONS OF IMMIGRATION JUDGES AND SOME DECISIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY.  BOARD OF ALIEN LABOR CERTIFICATION APPEALS REVIEWS DECISIONS RELATING TO ALIEN CERTIFICATION.
